Searching for data


Search for files on your hard disk
Click on the Start button and then Click on the Search command.
This will display the Search dialog box. To find file called Password, You would type in the name of the file into the dialog box, as illustrated. You will see that additional information is now displayed within the dialog box.

Then Click on the Search in file Contents icon and you will see the following displayed.

Tip: You may want to re-size the window so that the window is wider. You may also want to re-size the columns so that you can see the Folder location.

Double clicking on the file will display the file contents, as illustrated.

Advanced Searching by file size:
Click on the Down arrow to the right of the Advanced Search Section. This will display the following options.

Click on the down arrow next to the size section and you will see a drop down list displayed. Select is less than. In the next box, type in the number 104. This will allow us to find all files with a file size of 104 KB.

Advanced searching by date:
Click on the Start button and then click on the Search command. You will see the following dialog box displayed.
Enter the search word Windows.

Click on the Advanced Search button. This will display the advanced options including the Date searching option.
Next- Click on the down arrow to the right of the date section and you can select Date Modified or Date Create. In this case select date Create.

# Date Create

Click on the down Arrow to the right of next box, as illustrated below. Select a date a few months before today’s date.
